Hi there! I thought I'd share a little behind the scenes tour of how a recent family room design came together.
My clients live in the East Bay of San Francisco, and just moved to a new house with their two young kids and gorgeous black Lab. They asked me to come up with a family room design that would work well for camouflaging potential stains and mishaps with kids and dog hair....look sophisticated and yet, still be family friendly. Here's what I came up with.....
(The next few photos are taken with my iphone, so please pardon the fuzziness!) We started by painting the walls Edgecomb Gray (one of my favorite Benjamin Moore colors!) and created a furniture plan that included neutral basics, like a gray velvet sofa, white stone top coffee table and gray and white rug.
Next, we added a punch of color with a mix of vibrant and textural pillows. Some of the pillows are custom made with designer fabrics and the others are moderately priced. I love a good blend of high and low priced items in interior design!
The painting below came from one of my favorite places to source art. Lost Art Salon in San Francisco. The piece is vintage and by an artist named Rip Matteson. His work is available through Lost Art Salon and Serena and Lily. (If you need art consulting, please let me know! It's my passion!)
Coffee table styling is always one of my favorite parts of the design process. We added a colorful bromeliad (they last forever!) along with some sculptural objects and colorful books.
And here is the finished product!
(There are two gorgeous swivel chairs in this design, but we took one out for the photograph above!)
I just love how it turned out! Isn't their dog the cutest?
